The evolution of the web can be accurately described by saying that the web is a "living organism" and its applications evolve like it. It continued to change and perfect from its first appearance with Arpanet in 1966 until it reached this state.
So, what did we experience until Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0?
The evolution of the web is as follows:
Web 1.0 Era
Web 1.0 is the first and primitive version of the web, users can only retrieve their information. During this period, people used the Internet to obtain existing information, read content, many of which were provided by various web servers, and download programs and files. This period, also known as "salt work web" by experts, is a period without interaction.
In short, Web 1.0 means the passive collection of information published on the Internet. It is only possible to transfer over the web and provides one-way information transfer.
Web 2.0 Era
Web 2.0 is a word that started to be used in 2004. There are second generation internet services, that is, systems created jointly and by sharing by internet users.
Web 2.0: ''A set of technologies and applications that facilitate efficiency between people, content and data to promote new business forms, social structures and technology offerings.'' Recently, it is also called social media. Web 2.0 has a two-way information catalogue.
Social media provides much more effective and interactive communication because it is based on user control and participation. The emergence of social media came to the fore in the 2000s with many social networking sites. They can be chosen as electronic communication forms through which users can obtain information and share other content such as personal messages and videos.
In Web 2.0, one must be present to be invited to a target-oriented area, and the basis of communication is established by communicating. With the age of social media, we have gone through a period in which classical media has been separated from one-way and limited areas and has become multi-faceted and in a radiative process.
Web 3.0 Era
The term Web 3.0, of which we can often see the definition of the Metaverse lately, was first seen in 2006 in an article by Zeldman criticizing Web 2.0.
Web 3.0; It is the web world based on the decentralized and public blockchains of the Internet, where control is out of the hands of humans. Because with Web 3.0 communication, there will be a web world where the internet will create itself.
Web 3.0, also known as the semantic web, uses data very effectively. Semantic Web, which means Semantic Network in Turkish, has the feature of being a web project that aims to make online contents easily run and usable not only by humans but also by software.
The semantic web, which shows that the web consists of unlimited information, will gather the entire web under one roof and undertake the search, discovery and interpretation process.
